A journey to not hide behind the labels...
I am a dancer, performance maker and comedian based in Bengaluru, India. I remain deeply grateful to the freedom fighters who made India an independent nation, because Independence Day and Republic Day were the only occasions during my school days when I could step out of my introverted, studious self, those five minutes of choreography felt nothing short of rebellion. While the country celebrated political freedom, I was discovering something equally powerful i.e. challenging my socially and culturally conditioned body, a body trained toward restraint and limited expression, and slowly finding freedom within it.
Although I now practice performing arts professionally, those early performances introduced me to two ideas that continue to shape my work today: Human potential and Freedom. I have not trained in any classical or traditional dance form; instead, my practice is rooted in movement improvisation and shaped by various movement practices I have encountered, including yoga, contemporary floor work, Flying Low, and movement composition, often combined with voice, text, humour, and absurdity.
Through improvisation, I discovered an unexpected physical humour within myself. A boy who once struggled to express even basic emotions now finds himself making audiences laugh - something I could never have imagined. Humour has since become central to my practice: a way to detach from rigid structures, question conditioning, and play with the absurdities of being human. It might look bizarre from the outside, but it keeps me sane on this beautifully polluted blue planet.
